AI to Surpass Human Coders in 2025 – More Layoffs Ahead?

OpenAI’s Chief Product Officer Kevin Weil has claimed that AI surpassing human coders will permanently outmatch human programmers—potentially as early as the end of this year. His comments came during a conversation with Varun Mayya and Tanmay Bhat on their YouTube show, Overpowered, where he responded to Anthropic’s prediction that AI surpassing human coders in full coding automation could happen by 2027.

“At the price we’re going, I might be surprised if it’s 2027. I think it’s going to be faster,” Weil stated, highlighting the speedy development OpenAI’s models have made in aggressive programming. 

AI’s Leap in Competitive Coding
